"For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world--our faith.Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?" ~ 1 John 5:4-5 The faith that overcomes the world is OUR faith. This isn’t the gift of faith all men received from God, but it is faith that has become ours by reason of use. We need to progress from the faith God gave to us to a practical working faith that overcomes life’s adverse circumstances. The faith God first provided enables us to become free from who we were in Adam, but we need to go on from that initial liberation to where we live by overcoming faith. The Lord will not do that for us, but he made every provision for us to overcome and live by faith. Faith becomes ours as we exercise it in overcoming the world, the flesh, and the devil. If you believe Jesus is the Son of God in the moment of your temptation, the same grace that enabled you to be made free from Adam’s transgression is able to keep you from being overcome at that moment. This goes beyond just believing that Jesus freed you from sin when you first believed. Your personal faith in him allows you to believe that the freedom he purchased also applies to you right now. |
